Today at Techneek we are taking a look at the Star Wars Yoda FX Lightsaber. This injection molded gadget (or should we say toy?) is a real collectors piece (and comes in at quite a high cost). It does all the things you could expect a “toy” light saber to do - with both great lights and sound effects. Coming with a stand, it is ideal for both tabletop or wall display. But isit worth buying? We find out
Of course, this toy is intended for kids, but at a price of about £69.99 it certainly isn’t a throw away toy. There are other types of light saber avaible, such as the Obi-Wan one, and as this is based on Yoda’s model it is a full 15 cm shorter than those, so this is great for the smaller “big kid” or … just kids!
The Star Wars Yoda FX Lightsaber has a really nice weight to it and does feel very durable and stable. The light saber does a full range of fun light effects, which are all powered by 64 bright LEDs inside the blade.
The real fun though comes when you play with it with someone else. Oh yes! Inside the light saber are three motion sensors for detecting the movement and blade impact. It uses these to create very realistic sound effects (including the light saber classic “hum”, to power up noises, swinging noises and clashing noises). You have no idea just how much more fun it is when the light saber makes the sounds for you!
The sound on the the Yoda FX Lightsabers are also incredibly loud for their size, and makes it feel a lot more realistic.
This is a fantastic little fun toy for both the real kid and the big kids!
In the UK we got it from Play.com, which retails it at £69.99 (check prices, may change). We also found it on Amazon.co.uk however it was more expensive.
Over in the US however the cheapest price for the Star Wars Yoda FX Lightsaber seemed to be on Amazon.com.
